Being Married Can Be A Blessing. It Is All On How You Handle It!

I'm not going to lie to you all. I was never the little girl who dreamt about her wedding day or pictured how absolutely incredible it was going to be. I didn't play dress up and have some poor, naive little boy act the pathetic scenario out with me. No...it just wasn't on my list of "wants".

Fast forward many years later and I did get married. My first marriage was a total and complete failure. An utter debacle that truly proved to me that my first instinct was spot on and marriage was for the birds. The best (and only) amazing thing to come out of that event was my son Jakob. He is and always will be my one first true love.

Then, I met Bryan. A tall and handsome firefighter with a smile that could melt the coldest of hearts. He was funny, intelligent, sweet, and had such strong morals and values. It may sound cheesy but he really did have me at "hello".

So...here are my top 10 tips and truths about marriage:

1. You need to find that person who will be able to balance you out. .

2. Understand you are both individuals and very different in many ways. Little arguments are bound to happen. It's a fact of life.

3. Always compromise! Always. No exceptions.

4. Be humble. Please admit when you are wrong.

5. Never ever go to bed angry.

6. Let the little things go. Life is too short to be upset about the small stuff.

7. Respect each other!!!!!

8. Always have each other's backs. Loyalty is huge!

9. Lift each other up. It's your job to make each other better people.

10. Keep the sweet affection and romance alive

Listen...Life is messy, complicated, and stressful. Remember to give each other tons of grace and a copious amount of patience. Marriage is WORK! I feel like in today's society it is acceptable to give up when times get hard instead of putting in the necessary work into the most beautiful thing you have. Hard work does pay off!!!!
